Google, Updated the Google Account inactivity period to two years for all of its products and services. This change came into effect as of August and applies to all Google Accounts that are inactive, meaning they haven't been signed in or used for two years. Inactive accounts and their content can be deleted from 1 December 2023.
- These changes do not affect you if you have traded in your Google Account or signed in to any Google service using your account in the last two years.
- Although the changes will take effect in August, account deletion will not start before December 2023.
- If your account is deemed inactive, several reminder emails will be sent to both you and your recovery emails (if attached) before taking any action or deleting account content. These reminder emails are sent at least 8 months before any action is taken against your account.
- The Gmail address of the deleted Google Account cannot be reused when creating a new Google Account.
The simplest way to keep a Google Account active is to sign in to it at least once every two years. If you've signed in to your Google Account within the last two years, your account is considered active and will not be deleted.
